=== LOT Call-of-Proposal: 2027A Semester === This is call-of-proposal for Lulin One-meter Telescope (LOT) for Semester 2027A (from 01 January to 30 April, 2027). The proposal is divided into two categories: Education -- use the latex template given in LOT_Proposal_Education.zip for this category. Research -- use the latex template given in LOT_Proposal_Research.zip for this category. Deadline: *** 30 November 2026 (before midnight local Taiwan time) *** Kindly send your proposal as single PDF file, including the compiled proposal PDF and one-page for any figures and/or tables. Please do not send LaTeX source files. Please send your submission by email with the subject line "LOT 2027A proposal" to the following address: cngeow@astro.ncu.edu.tw **** NEW **** (A) Lulin LSST Followup program: - Starting from the 2027A semester, LOT will carry out the dedicated LSST Followup program. - For nights when LOT is equipped with CCD imager (Sophia 2048B), half of the night will be assiged to this program (e.g., in Summer with ~6 hours of night time, 3 hours will be assigned to this program). Note: this is NOT a hard-cut for assigning one program to the first-half night and another to the second-half night (or vice versa), the assignments will largely depend on the visibility for the targets from both programs. - By default, other programs using CCD imager will be in the "share-night" basis and executed in queue mode. (B) Education programs and other LOT programs that are not using the CCD imager (i.e. spectrograph, TRIPOL, or instruments testing) will automatically assign for full night and executed in classical mode. - Designated observer(s) need to be present at the Lulin Observatory to carry out the observation. OTHER IMPORTANT MESSAGE: (C) Rapid ToO Triggers: - Since semester 2025A, ToO Triggers have been catalogued into Rapid ToO and Normal ToO. - The Rapid ToO Triggers at LOT has been established with the highest priority for immediate follow-up on transient phenomena such as gamma-ray bursts, fast X-ray transients, fast radio bursts, and supernovae. This mode is designed to interrupt ongoing observations, including non-disruptive programs and education programs, to ensure swift and timely data capture for these urgent events. For Rapid ToO requests, please provide a strong science justification within your ToO proposal. - Normal ToO will not disrupt the education programs. (D) Following nights are not available. If your targets can be observed near full moon, we may still allocate these dates depending on the schedule. 22 Jan -- Engineering/Full Moon 05-07 Feb -- Lunar/Chinese New Year break, observatory close 21 Feb -- Engineering/Full Moon 22 Mar -- Engineering/Full Moon 21 Apr -- Engineering/Full Moon (E) For educational programs, please avoid scheduling around the new moon phase, and if possible, prioritise the period near the full moon. - The LSST Followup program will not use the educational project time, but in case of an urgent ToO, observations may still interrupt it (if using the imager). (F) spectrograph UVEX and LISA is open for general use. - Please see the instrumental page on Lulin website for more details. - Proposals using LISA or UVEX spectrograph are required to have observer(s) going to Lulin Observatory. Please also note that it is currently not possible to exchange the instruments at the same night due to the instrumental limitation. (G) LATTE is open for general use by NCU users since 2024C semester. - LATTE is a 50cm telescope in TAOS-A enclosure and can be operated fully remotely. Its FoV is 44’ by 33’ and rotatable. The pixel scale is 0.45 arcsec. Filter array contains Johnson-Cousins B,V,R,I broadband filters, Ha and [OIII] 5nm narrow-band filters, and a visible light white-light super-broadband filter. The BVRI filters are of square-shaped passbands (see filter curves in http://tinyurl.com/bdebjzf3). 1-hr 5-sigma limiting magnitudes are between 22.5 and 23.2 (Vega) in B,V,R, under typical conditions. - In this call for proposal, we offer a total of up to 20 nights to NCU users under dark and gray conditions. More nights can be offered around full moon, if there are observations that can tolerate the moonlight. Note that it is strongly encouraged to arrange remote observer(s) for carrying out the proposed observations (please include this information in the proposal). - If you wish to use LATTE for your program, please select it as your instrument in the Latex template. Please contact whwang@asiaa.sinica.edu.tw if more information about LATTE is needed. - For educational programs, LATTE offers up to three runs/groups since 2025C semester. It is required that the PI (or a designated TA) is already familiar with how to operate LATTE prior to the observations. (H) We strongly encourage observers (especially students) to be presented at the Lulin Observatory, instead of queue observing. (I) For proposal(s) re-submitted from past semesters, please address TAC comments in ** Section 14 **. Proposal(s) that do not show improvement will be rejected. (J) The typical proprietary period of data is 5 years. (K) The number of on-site observers should not exceed 17, except for educational programs, which allow up to 25. (L) Please indicate in the proposal if the PI of the program may bring extra people to observe on site (even if it is not confirmed yet). This is to inform the observing staffs prior to your observation to facilitate the arrangement of accommodation. (M) exposure time calculator for LOT CCD imager is available at https://kinder.astro.ncu.edu.tw/exposure_time_calculator Note that late submission and proposals not following instructions will NOT be accepted. For information regarding LOT and/or available instruments, please check Lulin's website (www.lulin.ncu.edu.tw) or consult with Lulin observing staff (lulinobsstaff@gm.astro.ncu.edu.tw). ToO policy: * Maximum of 2 hours of ToO interruption per night, including both Normal and Rapid ToO. Normal ToO: * Please inform and negotiate with the original PI in advance. The original PI/observer has the right to accept or decline the Normal ToO request. * Send the Normal ToO request to the Lulin observing staff at lulinobsstaff@gm.astro.ncu.edu.tw Rapid ToO: * Has the highest priority on LOT and will interrupt ongoing observations, including non-disruptive programs. The original PI/observer will be notified if a Rapid ToO is triggered. * Send the Rapid ToO request via the Lulin Slack channel. The accepted proposals and schedule for 2027A Semester will be announced at Lulin's website (www.lulin.ncu.edu.tw) in mid-December 2026.
