AP Series CCD Imaging Systems


The AP Series CCD imaging systems from Apogee Instruments represent high performance technology designed for demanding scientific research applications. From the AP1 with Kodak's 768 x 512 x 9µ pixel CCD, or the AP10 with a Thomson 2048 x 2048 x 14µ pixel CCD, to the AP7 with a SITe CCD boasting 85% peak QE (see QE chart below), we have the solution for your critical imaging application. Most systems have the option of a low-noise high-speed 14-bit digitizing subsystem or precision 16-bit subsystem.  Pixel sizes on the AP series systems range from 9µ to 24µ. All cameras use anti-reflection coated silica windows and forced-air cooling. Custom gain settings are provided at no cost.  2" x 24tpi adapters are supplied with the AP4, AP6, AP8, and AP9 while a T-thread interface is supplied with smaller CCD systems.

All AP series systems use a fast PC bus controller interface which utilizes state of the art Xilinx FPGA technology. Remote electronic triggering and eight open-collector TTL outputs are offered at no cost on request. Standard systems require no external power sources or tangled cable sets. A single cable from the camera to the controlling computer provides a clean configuration. By using a small boost unit, cable lengths of 200' or more are possible on the AP7 and AP8.  Bias frames are free from non-random artifacts and are resistant to outside interference, regardless of the cable length or environment. A sophisticated temperature controller allows precise software control of the sensor with designed-in safety features to prevent thermal shock damage to the CCD.

PC Interface

AP7P & AP260EP have a parallel port interface.

Remote Triggering TTL input to PC controller allows exposure start within 100 ns of trigger for applications requiring precise synchronization of exposures to external events.
Remote Shutter Control -- Optional Cameras can be supplied without an internally mounted shutter. An external connector is mounted to the camera body for control of an external shutter. This shutter output can be TTL or direct drive of 6 V. shutter coil.
